About HG Ministry
“...which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 12:17
The House of God Ministry [HG Ministry] is a group of autonomous churches located throughout the world that are keeping the commandments of God, having faith in Jesus Christ, and the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev. 12:17, 14:12, 19:10). We are not united by any human organization or union, but by one Holy Spirit of God living in us, and one teaching of the Holy Scriptures, in which we believe, and which we strive to observe in our life.
Our History
Our story begins after World War I, in the late 1920s, when the Eastern European countries experienced a spiritual revival. It was a brief moment in history before the Soviet Union authorities began to arrest pastors and leaders of the church. Many people were sent to slave labor camps, never to return. The Christians were scattered all over the world because of this persecution, finding refuge in Russia, Siberia, and Central Asia. Others emigrated to foreign countries.
God protected His people during Holodomor, a man-made famine, and World War II. The church community received guidance through spiritual revelations and migrated many times across the region. Religious persecution continued throughout the history of the Soviet Union, which prompted many believers to seek refuge in the United States. With a help of human rights organizations and sponsors from local churches, many believers came to the city of Portland, Oregon from former Soviet Union countries, such as Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, as well as from Baltic countries.
As time passed, the church community continued to grow. Groups of people began to spread throughout the States and start local churches in Alaska, California, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington. Meanwhile, the Portland location remained home for many members of the church, and continues to be the origin of many ministries.
Ministering others through various services was always the highest priority for the leadership of the church. The majority of services and activities are conducted in the Russian language and target the local Russian-speaking community. Pastoral care is the core ministry to serve people and provides emotional, social, and spiritual support through prayer, fellowship, mutual edification, and ministering to each other with spiritual gifts. Through educational ministry, the church body fulfills the Great Commission of Jesus Christ in proclaiming the Good News of the gospel. Music and song in worship are important ministries in the life of the community and glorification of God the Creator of heaven and earth.
God commanded our fathers to declare to their children, the future generations, that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments (Psalm 78).
“Make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all things that Jesus Christ commanded us.”
